About

My Story

An outdoor adventurer at heart, I fervently believe that the combination of nature and physical challenge, with a sprinkling of uncertainty, is the magic formula to achieving our best selves.

Growing up in a gender-role-oriented family on the West Coast in the U.S. (California, Washington and Oregon), I stayed home and practiced the piano while my dad and brother went on overnight hiking trips. I yearned to join them, but at that age, somehow couldn’t find the words to communicate it.

Fast-forward several years to the age of 21, and I found myself on my first overnight hike into the Grand Canyon, wholly unprepared and unfit for the adventure ahead. I struggled and pushed both my body and mind beyond the limits I had given them. Despite the pain, tears and blisters; I was hooked.

Overnight backpacking soon gave way to rock climbing, cross-country skiing, glacier mountaineering, mountain biking, canyoning, ice climbing and pretty much every human-powered sport you can do in the mountains. I do them all, but I’m not necessarily great at any of them.

Since that first true adventure in the Grand Canyon, I have persistently sought corners of the world that my comfort zone can’t reach. From outdoor adventure to career challenges to international living (Germany and South Africa), the unknown and uncomfortable have become my sanctuaries.

I have an MBA with emphases in both Marketing and Global Management, as well as a Bachelor of Science in International Business. I speak German fluently, and have studied Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and French.

In the past, I was successful at climbing the corporate ladder in higher education, but today am the founder, Chief Adventure Officer and Geschäftsführerin of Alpenventures UNGUIDED, a Munich-based, self-guided adventure travel company for experienced and independent outdoor adventurers. I also enjoy freelance writing on the side.
